We want to introduce you to another small village which is located just 5 km from Acquaviva, Saturnia.

Probably you know it for the famous hot spring with sulphurous water at 37,5° degrees, but then there’as hidden that beginning a history that begins in the mythological era and lost until nowadays.

And what is the best space if not Villa Acquaviva’s blog for to be describe?

At the time of the mythological era Saturno was banished from Gods throne and thus he seek shelter in this small village and it a the so called “Saturnia” even if the Etruscan population renamed it “Aurinia”.

At beginning of Etruscan Age, Saturnia, was settled in the Vulci’s area where Etruscan was born, and they survived until Roman’s expansion in 183 a.c.

During this time the Roman created “Via Clodia”(that can still be visited for a small point).

Via Clodia settled in street Saturnia is that links Cassia and Aurelia roads and was a useful connection between Rome and the Etruscan colony.

This big news gave the village a period of development that unfortunately, ended during the invasions of Goths and Longobards in IV century d.c.

Saturnia had a little time of peace during the Middle Ages under the Aldobrandeschi, but it was later attacked several times by the Saracens and by the Sienese until it was commanded by them until 1500.

From then, the village was conquered by Dè Medici.

Going by with the years and arriving in 1929 where the Ciacci’s family built the historic stronghold in Neo-Medieval style with its crenellated tower.

In the Roman age the hat water in Saturnia Area become an important place for relaxing and healthy holydays.

The end of ‘700 century and beginning of ‘800 century Ciacci’s family continued the renovation of the pools and buildings.

Between in 1919 the same owners built the first hotel but in the 1946 they decided to gave up this magic structure to Passalacqua that later sold to Terme di Saturnia company until our days.

By that time the hot springs have transformed in Terme di Saturnia Spa&Golf Resort, a 5 luxury stars hotel.

The questions are a lot of on why this water is amazing…

This water takes a way in hinterland of Mountain Amiata, it during his journey its mineralized with carbon dioxide releasing sulphur, calcium, sulphate and magnesium.

It absorbing gas and vitamins, it returns to the surface at the temperature of 37,5 deegres.

This water comes from the natural seabed of the main pool.

It continue its course it coming to die in “Cascate del Mulino”(also they natural).

The jet of this water is of 500 liters per second, that it changes the water every 4 hours for 6 times a day.

The therapeutic property of water are:

  1. Relax the muscles and the bone pains.
  2. Inflammation of the muscular and skeletal system.
  3. Amplify the breaths.

If drunk it facilitates digestion and it develops an antioxidant action for the liver.

Finally, this water exfoliates and cleanses the skin with a peeling effect.
